Early Life and Education

Born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Joe Biden grew up in a middle-class family. His father, Joseph Robinette Biden Sr., was a car salesman, and his mother, Catherine Eugenia Finnegan Biden, was a homemaker. Biden has two younger siblings, Valerie and James. The family moved to Claymont, Delaware, when Biden was ten years old.

Biden attended the University of Delaware, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965. He then went on to study law at Syracuse University College of Law, graduating in 1969. During his college years, Biden was active in politics, serving as the president of his freshman class and later as the chairman of the Delaware Democratic Party.

Early Political Career

After law school, Biden returned to Delaware and began practicing law. In 1970, he was elected to the New Castle County Council, where he served for two years. In 1972, at the age of 29, Biden was elected to the United States Senate, becoming the fifth-youngest senator in history. He served in the Senate for six terms, from 1973 to 2009.

During his time in the Senate, Biden was a strong advocate for civil rights, women's rights, and environmental protection. He also served as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee.
