Ukraine / Russia Conflict
Ukraine / Russia Conflict

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia in 2024 is a continuation of a complex and prolonged struggle that began in 2014. The war's origins lie in the aftermath of Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity, which led to the ousting of the pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych. Following this, Russia annexed Crimea and supported pro-Russian separatists in the Donbas region, leading to an ongoing conflict.

In February 2022, Russia escalated the conflict by launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, citing the need to "demilitarise and denazify" the country. This invasion was met with international condemnation and severe sanctions against Russia. The war has since involved significant military engagements, territorial disputes, and humanitarian crises, with both sides suffering heavy casualties and millions of Ukrainians being displaced.

As of 2024, the conflict remains unresolved, with Russia aiming to subjugate Ukraine and prevent its NATO membership, while Ukraine, supported by Western allies, strives to reclaim its territories and maintain its sovereignty.
